A wave of organized burglaries attributed to the so-called “Thar Gang” has recently raised concerns across parts of East Godavari district. The gang, believed to comprise members from North India, reportedly uses Mahindra Thar vehicles to move swiftly between districts and target residential colonies, villas, and isolated houses during nighttime. CCTV footage from several incidents has captured suspicious vehicles and masked individuals, helping police piece together the gang’s movements.
A Well-Planned Modus Operandi
Investigators say the gang carefully surveys neighborhoods before striking. Members reportedly identify houses where residents are away or asleep and carry out thefts with precision. They often wear masks and gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints and use vehicles with altered or fake registration plates. Their operations are typically completed within a few minutes, making it difficult for local residents to react in time.
Fear Among Residents
Recent incidents have created anxiety among residents of East Godavari, particularly in gated communities and developing residential areas. Many families have increased security measures by installing CCTV cameras, hiring private guards, and forming neighborhood watch groups. Local authorities have also intensified night patrols and increased surveillance at highways and district borders.

Police teams from East Godavari and neighboring districts have launched coordinated investigations to track the suspects.
