Serial Burglar Arrested in Anaparthi: Police Recover Gold Worth ₹58 Lakh

In a major breakthrough, the Anaparthi Police and Rajamahendravaram Crime Branch jointly arrested a notorious serial burglar who had been involved in a series of house thefts across East Godavari and neighboring districts. The arrest brought an end to several unsolved burglary cases that had created fear among residents. The accused, Chilapanasetti Sanyasi Rao, a native of Gonthuvanipalem village in Addateegala mandal, had reportedly turned to crime due to his gambling addiction. Since 2019, he had been targeting locked houses during nighttime, breaking open doors and stealing gold and silver ornaments. Police records indicate that more than 45 theft cases had been registered against him, and he had already served sentences in several cases while many others were pending in courts. After being released on bail in March 2026, the accused resumed his criminal activities. He allegedly committed another burglary in Lakshminarasapuram village of Anaparthi mandal and later expanded his operations to Korukonda, Ravulapalem, Alamuru, and nearby areas. Acting on intelligence inputs, Anaparthi police and Crime Branch officials laid a trap near Koppavaram Bridge and arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed to multiple thefts. Police recovered 385 grams of gold ornaments, 110 grams of silver articles, and ₹5,000 in cash, with the total value of seized property estimated at ₹58.09 lakh. The recovered valuables are believed to be connected to several burglary cases registered in different police stations. Rajamahendravaram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vidya disclosed the details during a press briefing. North Indian ‘Thar Gang’ Thefts in East Godavari

A wave of organized burglaries attributed to the so-called “Thar Gang” has recently raised concerns across parts of East Godavari district. The gang, believed to comprise members from North India, reportedly uses Mahindra Thar vehicles to move swiftly between districts and target residential colonies, villas, and isolated houses during nighttime. CCTV footage from several incidents has captured suspicious vehicles and masked individuals, helping police piece together the gang’s movements. A Well-Planned Modus Operandi Investigators say the gang carefully surveys neighborhoods before striking. Members reportedly identify houses where residents are away or asleep and carry out thefts with precision. They often wear masks and gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints and use vehicles with altered or fake registration plates. Their operations are typically completed within a few minutes, making it difficult for local residents to react in time. Fear Among Residents Recent incidents have created anxiety among residents of East Godavari, particularly in gated communities and developing residential areas. Many families have increased security measures by installing CCTV cameras, hiring private guards, and forming neighborhood watch groups. Local authorities have also intensified night patrols and increased surveillance at highways and district borders. Police Response Police teams from East Godavari and neighboring districts have launched coordinated investigations to track the suspects. Special surveillance units are analyzing CCTV footage and monitoring vehicle movements. Check-posts have been strengthened, and intelligence-sharing between districts has been enhanced to prevent further crimes. Similar organized gangs operating in North India have been known for using distraction and quick-escape techniques, making inter-state cooperation crucial.
