Authorities have issued a high-level safety advisory for fishermen along the East Godavari coastal belt, stretching from Antarvedi to Perumallapuram, after meteorological updates indicated worsening sea conditions influenced by changing wind patterns and developing low-pressure activity over the Bay of Bengal region.
According to the latest warnings, the coastal waters are experiencing strong and unstable currents, accompanied by sudden changes in wind speed and wave intensity. These conditions have made the sea particularly dangerous for small and medium fishing vessels, especially those lacking advanced navigation and safety equipment.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised fishermen not to venture into deep sea areas for the next few days, as wave heights are expected to rise significantly during peak hours. Officials have also noted that sudden squalls and unpredictable gusts of wind may occur without prior warning, increasing the risk of boat overturning.
Fishing activity along several landing points has already slowed down, with many boats being anchored safely along the shore. Local fishermen’s associations have begun informing members through village networks and coastal alert systems, urging strict compliance with the advisory to avoid loss of life and property.
